Celebrating 125 years of Golf at Mortonhall

Welcome to Mortonhall Golf Club

SGA_Nature_logo

Founded in 1892, Mortonhall is the oldest course in the City of Edinburgh over which golf is still played and is regarded as one of Scotland’s premier clubs. With its immaculate greens and fairways, lined with mature trees and whin-covered outcrops the course is a superb championship test of 6530 yards, boasting unrivalled scenic views across Edinburgh, the Firth of Forth and the Pentland Hills.

The club has hosted the Scottish Amateur Stroke Play, Scottish Youth Tournaments and  in 2017 the Scottish Girls Under 16's. Only 3 miles from the West End of Princes Street, Mortonhall Golf Course is a must for any keen golfer visiting the historic City of Edinburgh and offers some of the best golf in Scotland. We welcome visitors to our course and to use our superb clubhouse throughout the week.

Two weeks after the last of the snowfall the greens are getting there. Higher temps along with fertiliser and chemical applications are helping the recovery rate of the plant. The surfaces are improving daily.

@DrPaul0204 I'm sure the new Elmwood student on their HND course from Mortonhall will be a great ambassador too 😉

We would like to welcome Mortonhall GC's newest qualified Greenkeeper Robert King. Robert completed college today and has left with SVQ Levels 2 and 3 and his spraying certificates. Well Done RK1.

Course Closed Due To Flooding. We've had 40mm or an inch and a half in old money of rain and snow in the last week, on top of soil that was already at field capacity. Hopefully better weather just round the corner.

There's a new Green Scene update available on the website and the Noticeboard from today. Just some info on what we've been up to and what we've been trying to achieve in the last month or so.

Tee's back on main teeing grounds, freshly painted markers out, new bins installed, ropes and fences coming in and the sun is shining. Exciting times @mortonhallgolf, it's starting to look like a golf course again.

We are carrying out some light top dressing on the greens to fill any leftover core holes. Some winter greens may be in place during this time but we are putting them back on after brushing.

Well that's the new sign in place on the island, all I need to worry about now is getting back to dry land without drowning. Thankfully I'm 6ft tall so I should be fine.

In between coring and aeration work we managed to improve the right side of the 11th fairway. Colin and his merry band of lumberjack helpers have put paid to the troublesome blackthorn bushes.
